Public Show - WASsERLEBEN

The Public Show "WASsERLEBEN" runs parallel to the fair WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL. This special event provides extensive information to the general public, especially young people, about water as a resource. The show is designed to attract visitors who are unfamiliar with water-related issues and encourage them to seek further information and become actively involved.

At “WASsERLEBEN” organizations and institutions dealing with water demonstrate what is important and interesting about water in a fun and exciting presentation designed to stimulate visitors to reflect and act. Here, visitors can experiment and practice, and get answers to questions concerning living with and around water.

WATER – A vital necessity!

Water is one of the most diverse elements on our planet. Unfortunately it is also one of the scarcest. We take water for granted in our everyday lives, and often fail to recognize that it is the foundation and origin of all life.

72% of the earth’s surface is covered by water. This can be broken down into 97% seawater, 2.7% fresh water and only 0.3% drinking water.

Average per capita water usage is 123 liters per day, the equivalent of nearly 13 full buckets.

This water is used in many areas of everyday life:

  • Cooking/drinking 3%
  • Personal hygiene 6%
  • Baths/showers 30%
  • Flushing the toilet 32%
  • Cleaning 3%
  • Laundry 14%
  • Watering the garden 4%
  • Washing the car 2%

These are just a few aspects that demonstrate how important it is to focus more intensely on water, the element of life.
